Schmoof

They hump while we go nuts - sample

(UK)

Jobs that require headphones

Qui fait quoi ?

Joanna - chant, synthés
Johnny - chant, programmation, boîtes à rythmes

Un instrumental plus calme :
Anita Song - Coffee and Popcorn
Reprenons la chevauchée électro :
BeepTCHES Suite (Live)
Dorbze (Remix)

****************

1- You seem to have passed great time all along this two weeks tour with Goudron from Ersatz audio, 10 dates in the north east of US : NYC, Chicago, Detroit..., and 1 in Montreal, Canada...

Was it your first important tour?

It was our first tour and Goudron's, so we were both extremly excited, and it was very important!!!

What about Fonze-Ron?

At some point, we (joanna + Johnny + our driver..Johnny) all started calling Ron, "Hollywood" cos he looked like a rockstar...no matter where we were he always seemed to stick out, as if he was some famous rocker or something...then Johnny was like, "dude your like an electro-fonze or something"
Ron looks like he should be modifing motorcycles, not synthesizers...

Does he make "wow" ? (as Fonze does in "Happy Days")

Only on his synth's:)

I was told Johnny like going down the stage to bump into the public and sing at their ears.

Is this your secret tactic to collect girls phone numbers ?

It's his secret tactic for wiping sweat on other people...It's a great way to get people to dance... get down with them and shake them up!!!

Was the public reaction great?

Yeah totally, we are probably the funnest live electro band ever, and people can easily see why when we are rocking them...even if they hate synthesizer music, they have to love fun...people who don't love fun are zombies, and we hate zombies cos they try to eat you...

Any remix project with Ron?

Yes definatly!!!
He has this new song called "last man Standing" it was the biggest new hit of his set on tour. we want to rework it pretty bad...he's gonna rework something for us one day... hopefully we are gonna put out a split 10" in the near future.

2- You met each others in a gig that took place in your native town church parking,
an unexpected place for such a gig and nice meeting.

In which year did it occur ?

Tell us more about your meeting.

It was the end of summer '99. Johnny was out skateboarding and Joanna was out Roller blading. We both heard the distant sound of rock music comming from the church that we both attend sunday service with our families...Somehow we started chatting and Johnny invited Joanna to come see his punk band (theyellowsnowmen.tripod.com) play a show at a national guitar store chain. She did and the rest is history. Our first date was to a skate shop in the suburbs to get joanna a new pair of roller blades.

3- Later on, you started your musical project.

Could you tell us how did the first rehearsals looked like ?

There wasn't really any rehearsals...we just started recording!
we borrowed a four-track from our friend Chris otepka. Joanna played a home market Casio keyboard, and Johnny programed beats on the MTV Music Generator for Playstation 1. The first song we made was Skeeball Vs. The mall...
However, before we got to that point we talked alot of crap about how we were gonna start a band...That's a good thing, because then people get so mad that you talk all this shit, and then you have to show them what you "did"...then they get blown away!!!

3- You have this image of very nice and friendly persons and you seem to "cultivate" it.

Have you never pulled out flies wings ?

no, we can never catch them...

Never scared old people ?

No, but joanna used to "babysit" these old folks for a living...and one time the old people's son came over with a "hot dog" dog (dachshound)... joanna tried to pick him up for the old lady, and the dog bit her face. now she hates dachshounds...and old people!

4- Let's imagine that I am your nice fairy and that I have the power to make you travel in time.

Which gig would you like me to send you ?

Joanna would want to go back in time and see her favorite Polish children's music sensation, Natalia, in her prime!

Johnny wants to go into the future and see J+J+J's first show to use Video projectors cos that will probably be the sweetest period for us!!!

5-Explain us the title of your LP : they hump while we go nuts.Do you mean something like "they can't stop dancing with obscenity while we are driven mad" Know we are not native english speakers !
That could be one interpretation of it:) We're not really sure what it means... it was just a funny phrase we came up with before we ever made any music! It's also kind of a way that we poke fun at the stupid electroca$h scene from a few years ago...everything was about being sexy and fucking...and while everyone wastes their time "humping" around we shoot ahead to 2006 and get crazy, musically.

6-Now the most trivial question : what about your musical influences ?
Our biggest influences made guest appearances on our CD! MAGAS, N.O.I.A., and Schmoof!
We are inspired so much by the simplest music... electronic music that's created in bedrooms and small home studios...when you hear something and you're like, "wow, I could be doing this too! But they did it first, damn!" It pushes you to do something fresh, but shows you that sometimes just the act of doing something is more important that what you make...does that make sense?

7-Have you ever been to Europe ? Any j+j+j european tour :) ?
Joanna was born in Poland, and studied in England two summers ago.
Johnny has never been anywhere, and is dying to go!
I'm positive we'll make it to Europe at some point...but we're not sure when just yet...

8-What about french music, do you like any band from there?
Our favorite french producers would have to be SYD and Nancy Fortune!!!
We have been addicted to that Viewlexx "Le Jazz De Jupiter" EP for the past 2 years now!!!
SYD, if you ever want to collaborate on something in the future (J+J+J Remix) it would be our pleasure!!!
9-What about the distribution of your LP in Europe?

for now it seems it's only going to be available on import for you guys...but we're working on it!

10-Do you think Internet can help you in promoting the band?

The Internet has been our #1 way of promoting the band thus far, and it's pretty amazing!
It would suck to have to book tours only using only a telephone...telephone! what's that?

Thank you Js !
